Experience the Timeless Tradition of the 24th Day Market

On Friday, January 24, the traditional “Twenty-Four-Day Market” will be held on Honmachi-dori and Yasukawa-dori, the main shopping streets in Takayama City.
This historical event has been held on December 24 since the Edo period (1603-1867) as a “New Year's Market”, where nearby farmers sold daily necessities such as bamboo baskets, hats, and straw mats, foods for New Year's Eve, and New Year's decorations, all handmade during the off season. Stores in the shopping arcade sell special products and many gourmet foods from all over Hida are sold, while traditional handicrafts such as “hagina shoke (hand-woven colander),” “miyagasa” and “Arimichi ladle” are also sold. We hear that many people have been using the handmade and carefully crafted kasaya-shoke for decades because they are durable and easy to use.Why not come out and pick one up?
After a long walk in the cold, please have a smoke at our store. Please enjoy a meal or a drink made with Hida ingredients while gazing out the window at the winter scenery in our warm restaurant.
